There are many cases in which it is necessary to waterproof and put in place a protection system for artificial basins and channels.<\/p>\n<p>The bodies of water in question might be mining tailings ponds, basins for first flush stormwater or second flush runoff, or reservoirs. These are just a few examples, but solutions are available to meet any need.<\/p>\n<h2>Standard waterproofing and special waterproofing<\/h2>\n<p>Artificial basins and channels come into continuous contact with water, both in terms of flow (as regards channels) and in terms of storage (with regard to basins). Water is precious, and state-of-the-art waterproofing allows it to be collected for irrigation, to keep a fire-fighting reserve, to create an ornamental pond, or to settle deposits if the need arises.<\/p>\n<p>Special waterproofing is also carried out for hydrocarbon landfills, with specially designed membranes capable of handling even the most aggressive substances.<\/p>\n<h2>Preventing liquids from filtering into the ground<\/h2>\n<p>When we talk about artificial basins, we are referring to reservoirs specially constructed to hold large quantities of water. The walls and beds of these reservoirs need to be waterproofed, since the water in them could be used for agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>Settling ponds, meanwhile, contain water from sewage drains or industrial waste: the goal in this case is to eliminate pollutants. Whether it\u2019s saltwater, drinking water, or water polluted by chemicals, waterproofing prevents liquids from leaking into the ground and being carried away by water channels and pipes.<\/p>\n<p>Channels and basins are waterproofed using the same techniques and the same materials, but in the case of channels, banks can be strengthened using reinforcing elements such as geogrids.
